Looking to buy pigs?

Pig Buying Checklist

Here at Crawford's Feed, we have a wide range of knowledge and experience when it comes to keeping animals.

It is quite a common occurrence for us to be asked for tips on keeping different types of animal. We would like to share with you, a 'Pig Buying Checklist'.

Feel free to share this with any of your friends or family who may be looking to purchase one or more of these delightful creatures.
  • Use the Internet, agricultural newspapers and specialist smallholder magazine for pig contacts.
  • Buy in early or late spring.
  • Where possible, buy from a breeder.
  • Avoid buying at auction, livestock markets or simply "over the telephone".
  • Always view litters before many piglets have been sold.
  • Assess the current environment of the pig/piglets.
  • Check for good health and temperament.
  • Check the pigs' earmarks, documentation and registration.
